Pond Pumps For Hydroponics & Aquaponics

Healthy plants, stable water quality and reliable crop production depend on consistent circulation. AquaFlow pond pumps support hydroponic grow beds, fish tanks, nutrient channels and aquaponic systems with steady, efficient flow.

For growers, system integrators and greenhouse operators, the right pump must deliver stable flow at the actual head, operate continuously and remain easy to service throughout the production cycle.

Hydroponic Grow Beds

Gentle, controllable flow for NFT channels, deep water culture beds and raft systems. Stable circulation supports nutrient delivery and uniform crop growth.

Hydroponic & Aquaponic Pump Solutions

Aquaponic Systems

Reliable circulation between fish tanks and vegetable beds. Move nutrient-rich water through filters, bio-media and plant channels for integrated production.

Greenhouse System Integrators

A dependable pump platform for greenhouse builders and system integrators connecting tanks, solids filters, biofilters, grow beds, sumps and return lines.

How Hydroponic & Aquaponic Pump Circulation Works

Aquaponics & Hydroponics
  • The pump draws water from the fish tank, sump or nutrient reservoir.
  • Flow passes through solids filtration, bio-media, aeration and plant grow channels
  • Conditioned water returns to the fish tanks or hydroponic beds at the required turnover rate.

Serving Hydroponic Growers, Aquaponic Farms & System Integrators

  • What is the total fish-tank, sump or reservoir volume?
  • What is the target turnover rate for fish health and plant nutrient delivery?
  • What is the vertical lift from the reservoir to the grow beds or return?
  • Is the application NFT, DWC, raft culture, media beds or a combined aquaponic loop?

Choose Hydroponic & Aquaponic Pumps According To Your Needs

Calculate the required working flow at the actual operating head, then select the pump according to system volume, crop demand, pipe size, energy efficiency, solids handling and maintenance access.

B

How to calculate hydroponic system head?

  • h1

Vertical lift from tank or sump level to grow beds or return

  • h2

Horizontal pipe distance between pump and grow beds

  • h3

Friction loss through bends, valves, filters and bio-treatment equipment

  • h4

Required return pressure and distribution elevation

Total dynamic head:

H = h1 + h2/10 + h3 + h4

How to choose a hydroponic or aquaponic pump?

The pump should meet the required flow at the real system head—not only its maximum open-flow rating. Select a model with enough reserve for filter loading, crop demand, pipe friction and future expansion.

Example:

Commercial Aquaponic Greenhouse Loop

Model: AF-12000-AQ | Recommended flow: 8,000–12,000 L/H

  • Pump power: 180 W maximum
  • Input voltage: 220–240 V / 50 Hz
  • Best operating range: 60–100%

Quiet continuous-duty motor and serviceable strainer

  • VMP voltage > 90v
  • VOC voltage < 160v

Solar panel:

  • power 330w
  • VMP voltage 37.26v
  • VOC voltage 45.64v

3 solar panels in series:

  • power 330w*3=990w
  • VMP voltage 37.26v*3=111.78v
  • VOC voltage 45.64v*3=136.92v

In this case, the power and voltage requirements of the pump can be satisfied, so this solar photovoltaic panel array scheme is acceptable.

D

Is variable-speed control necessary for a hydroponic system?

A controller is recommended when the system needs adjustable flow for crop stages, feeding cycles, filter loading, oxygen demand or energy-saving operation.

How to choose a pond pump controller?

Choose a controller matched to the pump motor and greenhouse power supply. Smart control can coordinate schedules, oxygenation, feeding cycles, duty/standby pumps and alarms

F

How to select hydroponic pump pipework and cables?

The installation should use correctly sized suction and discharge lines, accessible isolation valves and protected electrical connections. Design for easy cleaning, sanitation and safe service in a humid greenhouse environment.

Notes for selecting hydroponic installation lines:

  • Use food-safe, corrosion-resistant pipe, valves and sealed connectors where required.
  • Select waterproof cable glands, overload protection and safety devices for the motor load and distance.
  • Keep controllers and service connections protected from humidity, splash, condensation and flooding.
